I hate to sound pedantic or to annoy anyone, but is it a good idea to post this letter-to-the-editor here? Do we have permission? Instead of this page we may just want to link to the article itself on the Times Web site (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/07/opinion/07meacham.html?pagewanted=all).
Having said that, it's a great letter, one of the best LttEs I've seen in the last couple years! :)

A letter to the editor is submitted and written by a third party. I am not sure if the paper can claim ownership of it. Maybe we can get a more-informed opinion on that. --Pile 10:32, 20 November 2007 (CST)
