A circumstantial ad hominem is an argument in which you attack a person, or dismiss their argument as invalid, on the basis of their circumstances. One example of this is Duane Gish's claim that the only reason for the massive acceptance of evolution in the scientific community is that "most scientists are unbelievers...".
