Jesus, also known as Jesus of Nazareth, was a 1st century Jewish leader who is the central figure of Christianity. He is also called Jesus Christ. What we know about Jesus' life and teachings are in the four Gospels of the New Testament. Few critical scholars believe that all ancient texts on Jesus' life are completely accurate. Evidence outside of the Gospels, written 40+ years after Jesus's supposed death, are sketchy. Christian views of Jesus center on the belief that Jesus is the Messiah whose coming was promised in the Old Testament and that he was resurrected after his crucifixion. Christians believe that Jesus is God incarnate, who came to provide salvation and reconciliation with God. In Islam, Jesus is considered one of God's most beloved and important prophets, a bringer of divine scripture, and a worker of miracles. Muslims do not share the Christian belief that Jesus is the son of God, this is blasphemy in Islam.

Birth and Early Life

Jesus was born in Bethlehem. His mother, Mary was supposedly a virgin. According to the Bible, Jesus's father, Joseph, and his mother were, forced to use a manger in place of a crib because of a shortage of accommodation at an Inn. Jesus' childhood home is identified as the town of Nazareth in Galilee. According to Luke, Jesus was "about thirty years of age" when he was baptized. In Mark, Jesus is a carpenter. Matthew says he was a carpenter's son, suggesting to some that Jesus may have spent some of his first 30 years practicing carpentry with his father.
