random theist irrati-babble

According to this very site's definition of atheism, "the term "atheist" implies a person has a belief in the non-existence of God."

And I'm inclined to agree.

--> So that would make theists nonbelievers, because they disbelieve the non-existence of God? Please. Try to come up with something better than illogical reversal.

yawn

Thank you for pointing out one of the many illogical beliefs that people such as yourself have. Like many of your other beliefs, upon further investigation, your claims are not valid, just as they are in this case of suggesting that "atheism is a belief." Thanks for playing, "Theists have no sense of logic." Come back soon!--Pile 06:26, 4 October 2008 (CDT)

my mistake

Oh, shit, sorry. I misread the page on the definition of Atheism. Anyway, I think the "belief in the non-existence of God" is equivalent to not believing in God. But it's largely a matter of semantics, and not too important in my opinion. Starno 18:20, 4 October 2008 (CDT)

response from Pile

IF you want to discuss it, take it to the forum, however, note the difference between atheist and atheism, and the particular extreme flavor called, "strong atheism" which could be categorized as somewhat of a belief. --Pile 20:00, 4 October 2008 (CDT)

Youtube video

There is a reference to a YouTube video in this article, but it isn't rendering properly.

--- It is rendering properly for me... I'm not sure what browser you're using but it does work. --Pile 20:18, 16 November 2008 (CST)

If atheism is not a belief, why are so many atheists involved in all this pseudo-science nonsence?

What does that have to do with atheism? You don't have to be smart to not believe in gods. --Pile 22:11, 28 January 2009 (CST)

Atheism is a belief

You say about if you don't believe in Santa Clause you call yourself an "Anti-Santa-Clausian?", and you think this shows that it isn't a belief. Could you not just as easily say "I believe that Santa Claus doesn't exist" therefore having a belief. So just as easily an atheist can say "I believe that a God or Gods do not exist" once again therefore having a belief.

Definitions of belief on the Web:

any cognitive content held as true impression: a vague idea in which some confidence is placed

An atheist has a cognitive content which they hold as true, which is them thinking that there is no God. They place confidence in this, obviously as if they didn't have confidence in this they would call themselves an agnostic, someone who isn't sure whether a God or Gods do exist.

This article pretty much sucks

Judging by the comments here, I don't think this article explained anything to the people it was addressed to.

You might want to simplify it? (correct me if my simplification is wrong)

The boolean "existence of God" has three states, two of which are 'final' states. (True, False) and Not Enough Data. you theists say that we think the state of 'existence of God' is false, which is as dumb as it being true. (now, perhaps i have a really weird religious background, but i've never heard this argument in church, so it seems strawmannish... at least to me) we atheists say that the state of the boolean is Not Enough Data, which makes us really pro and you all n00bs.
